Multidisciplinarity: the countless paths you can follow

Do creative activities, interests and attitudes from every sphere fill your days? You are probably multidisciplinary or multipotential.

Which path will you choose when available you can take all those you feel inside of you?

How many forms can your passion take?

I just finished seeing a very interesting speech on Ted ‘s website ( at this link you can see the video ), which talks about multidisciplinary people starting from different scenarios; in particular, the starting point revolves around this question: “And what will you do when you grow up?”

How many times as children have we been asked … countless. It seems like yesterday that I answered with all sincerity “I want to be like the sun, the sun is beautiful and good dad.”

I see that moment again and it seems so current, so present: in the car with my father through the streets of the center of Modena (I think we were going to visit my grandparents who lived downtown at the time ), and me playing in the back seat lost in my world of fictional heroes and ninja turtles, I look up and the sun illuminates me, envelops the whole world in which I was immersed, creating a magic that I can still perceive. And it is in that moment that I express the desire to be like the sun, I shout it to my father who at that moment smiles or perhaps does not even understand why he may think this thing …

Now I think about how much beauty we have at that age, how connected we are with the Universe .

Growing up I think we forget about that period and our answers to those continuous questions, and this is how our path begins, outlined by the school, by friendships and finally by the profession / career we have chosen to undertake.
In all this scenario there is always that thin red line whereby if you try to move outside the path that is outlined, then you automatically become “the different” , “the excluded” , “the rebel”.

What will you do when you grow up? Which road will you take? Which one will make you happier?

And instead here you are. It is you who look at the horizon and wonder if there is something wrong with you, if finally maybe they weren’t right to tell you that you have to specialize and you can only do one thing in the world. You can only be that professional figure, it is prevented from creating and dreaming of a different life.

I have always thought that freedom of expression is a good basis for raising free generations to be able to create something different, a new path of improvement that can have a beneficial effect on the entire community. Entire generations of multidisciplinaries who are not afraid to show their ability to adapt and research for new scenarios to share especially with those who have specialized, only in this way can we think of having a future where collaboration for the improvement of the community can come from everywhere, even from those who dreamed one day of being like the sun …

And so you feel, urgent, the need to travel all those roads that open up inside, the infinite possibilities of choosing who we will be, what we will study, what we will like to do in this future, building immediately in the now, everything that we are thanks to our uniqueness .

So, to conclude, the next time you open your eyes in the morning, be thankful for all that you are and for every time you have thought “I have tremendous satisfaction in doing this, but also this and that too. satisfaction in being MYSELF today too. “

Thank you.
