How does my music evolve? Comparison of “Delord “by Lola Corre and “Christian DeLord” by Anema e Core.
The latest video clip of Christian DeLord’s single “Anema e Core” won third place at The Lovie Awards, and as I often do in the face of a new milestone, I like to remember the beginnings.
My very first single, as well as a video clip, was “Lola Runs,” which tells a very different story, though still talking about Love.
But perhaps it is time for the “DeLord” of 2012 to tell you about it.
In fact, in this article I want to bring together the words and reflections I wrote on the blog in 2012 to recount “Lola Runs” whose theme, despite the years, remains as relevant and sensitive today as it was then. Return to the past with me:

It’s time to make up for it, I’ll leave it here for you, it can be a background in your reading:
Lola Runs: Christian DeLord’s first single on prostitution, narrated by the DeLord of 2012.
“Lola Corre is a pianistic, minimalist, perhaps even haunting journey inspired by the theme of prostitution and violence against women in Italy. The music expresses Lola’s desire to break free from abuse and violence, in a race toward love, a feeling now forgotten.“
Rather than prostitution per se, in the individual I was telling about the risks of such a profession, where people often find themselves in violent situations, rape and abuse that they cannot even report given the illegal nature of such a profession in Italy even today.
Lola Runs “addresses the sensitive issue of “violence against women” as applied to the world of prostitution in Italy; a cross-section of vision between Pasolini’s and Montanelli’s era is offered to push the viewer to reflect. Lola represents many girls who face prostitution in its different facets: there are those who want to do it legally, those who are exploited, those who are raped, those who are abused, and those who still try to dream of a different life.“

Here’s how the 2012 DeLord tells it to you:
“it all kicks off with the phrase that appears on the score in the first few seconds: “In 1950 violence took shape on the streets of our existence.”
Lola, prostitute, after being raped collapses falling asleep. She dreams of herself in a hotel, a place familiar to her having been there for work, but this hotel is different: it is deserted.
Intrigued, she begins to explore it: she enters a room where there is a television set turned on with historical footage shot by Pasolini with snippets of interviews about prostitution and the Merlin law.
The second room he enters, however, depicts a cross-section of today’s situation of those who are prostitutes and often work on the streets.
Lola continues to wander in this empty hotel pervaded by a sense of unease, but she hears music, a melody that captures and comforts her and leads her to another place where she feels safe and secure. Music gives her hope again: it represents salvation.
At some point she wakes up and returns to the harsh reality full of hypocrisy in which she is forced to live every day.”
Why put those objects and shots in the rooms, why add so many “hidden details” in one video clip? Today, music follows other logics, today we look for externality, bright, artistic shots: back then the only criterion was music and history, just think of the song “Fake Plastic Tree” by Radiohead.
But every little detail in the video was carefully chosen, and I immediately told about it:

, we researched who had dealt with the topic la of prostitution in the past.
We came across some video reports of
Pasolini
interviewing popular reactions to the
Merlin law
(a 1958 law that sanctioned the closure of brothels and the abolition of the regulation of prostitution in Italy).
Pasolini was silenced because he was a simple but “inconvenient” spokesman for the people. At the assembly stage, we chose to
associate Pasolini
with the figure of
Montanelli
, because he too, albeit in a different sphere, had been “silenced” because he denounced political and social problems without allowing himself to be corrupted.”
Certainly, despite the very topical issue, there has never been a political line-up or interest in it in me: it is a complaint, which unfortunately almost 10 years later remains valid. Certainly the importance of music in my songs has never changed, although today it expresses a more introspective message.

Those who have been following me for a few years will already know this, otherwise I’ll explain: some time ago I carried on a column on the blog called “Delord Tells Delord,” which in 2012 I defined as
“an interview where I tell my nature, my way of being. What’s behind Delord and his notes.”
In today’s society it is becoming increasingly difficult to succeed, blogs no longer have the “Public Diary” function they once did, and pretty pictures on Instagram have taken the post of thoughts on MySpace, yet I like to believe that I still manage to communicate my thoughts, feelings and reflections through my songs.
This is the purpose of my latest Disc “The Essence,” where I precisely search for and celebrate the true essence within each of us. Anema e Core is but one of the tracks within this record, where I celebrate love, love of music, romantic love and love of Naples.
