Today I found this beautiful story on facebook, it moved me considerably … now, you will think “here, the usual bimbominchia stuff found on the net”. I chose to publish it because it reflects exactly what I promised myself three years ago: to take myself my time to do what I love and be close to the people I love. It doesn’t take much. Start by being less materialistic and turn off the TV!
Son: “Dad, can I ask you a question?”
Dad: “Sure, what’s it about?”
Son: “Dad, how much money do you make in an hour?”
Dad: “None of your business. Why are you asking me such a question?”
… Son: “I just wanted to know. Please tell me, how much money do you make in an hour?”
Dad: “If you really want to know, I earn 20 € in an hour”
Son: “Oh! (with head down)
Son: “Dad, would you lend me 10 €?”
The father was furious.
Dad: “The only reason you asked me was to borrow some money to buy some stupid toy or some other nonsense, now you go straight to your room and go to bed.
Think about why you are becoming so selfish. I work hard every day and then get this childlike attitude of yours.
The little boy went quietly to his room and closed the door.
The man sat down and became even angrier at the boy’s question. How did he dare to ask me such a question just to get some money?
After an hour or so, the man calmed down, and began to think:
Maybe there was something he really needed to buy with 10 € for, he doesn’t ask for money very often.
The man went into the little boy’s room and opened the door.
Dad: “Are you sleeping, son?”
Son: “No dad, I’m awake”.
Dad: “I was thinking, maybe I was too hard on you before. It was a hard day for me today and I dumped on you. This is the 10 € you asked me.”
The little boy sat down immediately and began to smile.
Son: “Oh, thank you dad!”
Then, from under his pillow, he pulled out some crumpled bills. The man saw that the boy already had money, and he began to get mad again. The little boy slowly started counting his money, and then looked at his father.
Dad: “Why do you want more money if you already have it”?
Son: “Because I didn’t have enough, but now I am”.
“Dad, I have 20 € now. Can I buy an hour of your time? Please come early tomorrow. I’d like to have dinner with you.”
The father was petrified. She put her arms around her baby and begged him to forgive him.
This is just a warning to remind all of you that you work so hard in your life. We must not let time slip through our fingers without having spent some time with the important people in our lives, those close to our hearts. Will you remember to share that € 20 is worth your time with the person you love? If we die tomorrow, the company we work for can easily replace us in a few days. But the family and friends we leave behind will feel the loss for the rest of their lives. And start thinking about it, we put everything we have on work rather than on our family.
